Hiring an interpreter...Not just a good idea, it's the law!

When hiring interpreters, you have the right to view their Nevada Registry (picture-identification) card and RID Certification card.

Below are some links to NEVADA and U.S. laws that require and regulate the use of Sign Language interpreters in Nevada.

Nevada maintains two interpreter lists:

"Educational" and "Community" (see below).

Effective October 1, 2008, regulations for the field of Interpreting for the Deaf were [amended from the 2001 NV law.] These regulations require providers of Interpreting to be registered with the State of Nevada in order to legally perform Interpreting in the State of Nevada regardless of Certification or experience.

Please keep in mind, there are two basic fields for which interpreters can be registered: Educational and Community. When you get to the website, select Educational for K-12 setting; Community for all other needs.
